2017 was very much a year of progression and I hope that we can carry the momentum we built last year into 2018. We maintained a strike rate around the 20% mark for most of the year until we ran some juveniles who needed the experience at the back end of the year and finished with a respectable strike rate of 14%. More importantly we had seventeen winners from the nineteen horses we ran and half of our runners finished in the first four.

Darkroom Angel provided us with our first winner at local course Goodwood when she won a handicap on the first Saturday in May and we had seven winners at Brighton. Stalwart Black Caesar managed to get his head in front on three occasions as did the progressive Dragons Voice who improved throughout the season and signed off 2017 with a win at Windsor.

Ayr Of Elegance provided one of the feel good stories of the year when winning at Lingfield in January. She won a race in the Stewards room in 2016 only to have it taken away but after 26 years of trying Bill Davis finally had his winner on the 18th January and there were a lot of emotional scenes in the winners enclosure afterwards. She won twice more and was second at Goodwood during a very fruitful campaign.

New recruit Buzz Lightyere gained a fan club at Brighton when winning there three times. He was met by his namesake in the winners enclosure after his third win. When he came to us he was a Maiden and so it was extremely satisfying to have such a good year with him. Lightly Squeeze broke his Maiden at Wolverhampton and won a Doncaster handicap and Otomo won early on in the year.

The handicapper has had his say with many of the winners and we lost one or two horses at the sales but we are looking for a mix of the old and the new to take us another step forward in 2018. We have some unexposed three year olds that I hope can win their share of races and it would be fantastic to see the unlucky Rocksette break her Maiden after coming second three times in 2017. Dragons Voice will hopefully continue to progress and if the handicapper relents Black Caesar should win a race or two. Buzz Lightyere remains with us and should continue to be a force to be reckoned with around Brighton. Our Oystercatcher is another I am looking forward to on the turf and it would be great to see Zambeasy some back to form.

We have to target at least twenty winners in 2018 and we need to make sure we keep striving to reach higher heights. We have a tight knit team in place for this season and as a team I hope we can continue to improve and provide all of our owners with a successful and enjoyable experience. If you are not currently involved with Philip Hide Racing and having an interest in a horse with us is something that potentially appeals to you then please do get in touch with us. WOW what a busy few days, 4 runners 3 different meetings followed by 3 runners 2 meetings.

DRAGONS VOICE our super star, for a short moment I thought no but then he puts his head down and gets going and WINS well. As usual he takes it in his stride and comes home relaxed and ready to chill again.

Rocksette – ran her heart out, she had a great position all the way and on horrible ground was just beaten 1/2L.
Rocksette at Brighton

Lightly Squeeze a horse to watch in the future didn’t settle early on and then never in the race.

Otomo – gave us a good run in the evening at Kempton and looks to want further.

Buzz Lightyere – tried his heart out again but unfortunately they came out the stalls and went straight across leaving Buzz right out the back, Buzz was faced with a wall of horses but managed to get through to finish a creditable 5th.

Haulani – came from the back but was beaten a head, another stride further and he would of won, John Fahy said he wants further and was really pleased with him.

Zambeasy – who is on top form at home and absolutely loving life didn’t run to his usual standard it was a stop start race for him and he never really seemed to find his stride. We are pleased to say he is home and well so look forward to another day.

DRAGONS VOICE – WINS FOR HEART OF THE SOUTH RACING – he loved the good to soft ground – Well done to the team and owners.

Haulani – coming back to form finishing 3rd at Windsor 24th July 2017

AYR OF ELEGANCE WINS OVER 2 MILES – Ayr didn’t look to be enjoying the ground but that didn’t stop her taking the lead at the 3 marker and winning easily. Well done to Bill Davis and Russell Boult.

WOOHOO DARKROOM ANGEL WINS AGAIN. She maybe small but she is tough, she had a great ride and looked like she was going to be 3rd and then battled on to win. What a superstar.

Rocksette ran well finishing 5th, she has come out of her race well and we look forward to running her over a slightly further trip.

Onehelluvatouch – we are pleased to report is absolutely fine after a bizarre chain of events which led to her blinkers being dislodged.

AYR OF ELEGANCE gives Bill Davis his first win in 26 years FANTASTIC

BLACK CAESAR GETS US OFF TO A GREAT START WINNING ON SATURDAY AT LINGFIELD – A word in his ear from Graham Lee threatening him that he would be going back over the jumps soon had Blacky running at his best!! WELL DONE to all those connected.

AYR OF ELEGANCE – It was great to see Ayr of Elegance back on the track although Philip was disappointed that finished 5th and felt she didn’t give it her all.

I need everyone’s help with this one please, on Saturday I shall be cycling 50 miles to raise funds for the Steviefishertrust, Stevie aged 44 had a stroke 2 years ago which has resulted in him being pretty much completely paralysed, he has what is termed “locked in syndrome” meaning his brain is 100% with an unresponsive body. Communication is via equipment that tracks his right eye so it’s pretty desperate to say the least.
My aim is to raise at least £1,000 to help towards his care and I am hell-bent on achieving this.
Not many of you will know Stevie, but the old adage ” do unto others as you would have others do unto yourself” must resonate.
Please go to
If you are able to donate.

Many thanks Phlip

What another great run from Zambeasy at Windsor last night, just headed in the final furlong. Well done to Heart of the South Racing and everyone connected.

Great day racing yesterday at Lingfield and Goodwood 19th May 2016

WINNER at Lingfield – Ayr of Elegance won for her owner Mr Davis who has waited 25 years to have his first winner!!!

2nd for Black Caesar who ran another cracking race being just beaten a short head.

3rd for Bergholt he ran on from last to 3rd in the final furlong at Goodwood.

25th April 2016

ZAMBEASY WINS for a 5th time for us at Windsor for Heart of the South Racing…
Jamie Spencer gave him a great ride and avoided the swans knowing Zambeasy’s allergy to them!!! (very amusing)

19th April 2016

Black Caesar wins easily at Brighton – well done to his owners!!!

Ballroom Angel finished 7th at Wolverhampton – George Baker said she took a bump on the bend and was pushed out and then never really happy from there.

Bergholt ran Thursday night at Chelmsford and finished a promising 4th in what was a competitive race.

Ayr of Elegance ran a cracking race finishing 2nd on Wednesday at Lingfield – so near yet so far but having not been on the track since last August will only improve for her run.

William Twiston Davies winning easily on Snow Conditions
